Ronald Mustafa Ponsenby McGraff is the Toad and created his favourite pub with his business partners, Bobby Skinstad (a kind of famous ex Springbok rugby captain), Paul & Lindi le Roux (they own a little spot next called Cafe Roux) and Dougie Boyes (Surfer boy and ex chartered accountant). The concept was to open the kind of place that we all would like to visit - a relaxed country pub – hence the Toad in the Village was born.
"The Toad", as it is affectionately known these days, opened in December 2008 as a country pub and restaurant at The Noordhoek Farm Village. The Toad really likes grass, so they decided to lay the beer garden out with all weather garden grass - giving the rolling countryside feel amidst the greenery of The Noordhoek Farm Village.
The Toad epitomises a family restaurant - not only is it kid friendly, with a fabulous inside/outside area for kiddies, they encourage as much shoulder rubbing as necessary and will configure seating arrangements to your desire. Noordhoek Farm Village also has large outside grassed area where kids can throw a ball or just have fun on the grass and the jungle gym and playground are well secured for the smaller ones within the safe surroundings of the village. The Toad is not a fan of the shopping mall experience so this is about as far removed as you can get from that !
And when it comes to food and drink The Toad knows what he and his mates want, so they made a menu suitable for all. The Toad is well known for our extremely good pub fare and extensive range of draft beer and other beverages- try the Toad lager for example- a Mitchell’s micro brewery beer named after endangered Western Leopard Toad Ronald Mustafa Ponsenby McGraff. Ronald is a central feature in this county pub – he can be found in photographs with the queen and Nelson Mandela. The Toad ensures that the chips are cut fresh every day from the best potatoes he can get my hands on and the gourmet pizzas are quite simply mouth watering and are made from only the freshest and best ingredients available. Only when you have tasted our rack of ribs, Guiness springbok pie, smoked eisbein, gourmet pizzas and smoked chicken salad will you know what I am talking about. So what are you waiting for?
On warm summer days they have an outside deck upstairs, set amongst the trees of Noordhoek. The inside bar and dining areas are open, airy, spacious and not a crowded smoky pub. On cold winter nights they have open roaring fires on both the downstairs and upstairs dining areas for your warmth and coziness. As proud South Africans and with an owner intricately involved with national sport, sport is very much a part of all our lives at The Toad. Live sport is always on our large flat screen TV's for your enjoyment. When we are not at play (as you can see I do get around) my mates and I will be watching the latest 'nail biter' at The Toad. Be prepared however, some of my mates are extremely passionate about sport and will relish in the opportunity to raise your excitement levels to fever pitched sideline stuff.
The pub hosts a regular quiz night at 19:30 on Tuesdays, which has quickly become a reputation builder and breaker for the wild and wily of the south peninsula! Corporate entertainment is also easy as it’s a malleable venue, with smiling, attentive staff that’s also ideal for business and private parties.The Toad is that place where good friends and family get together - a destination popular with locals but welcoming visitors from all over Cape Town and across the globe.
