Noordhoek Farm Village sponsors the recycling depot for Noordhoek. Noordhoek Farm Village believes in safeguarding our environment and encourages all Noordhoek residents and visitors to help us recycle our waste.
The Recycling depot can be found as you enter Noordhoek Farm Village on the right hand side. Items that can be recycled at the depot include:
- cans and tins
There are a few items that do not fit under the categories above and they are clearly listed on the signs placed on each of the depot's units. Please note that dumping at the depot is an offence and the fine is R10,000!
In 2001, NEAG (Noordhoek Environmental Action Group) set up the recycling depot at the entrance to the Noordhoek Farm Village. The village now maintains the depot, which is sorted and kept clean and tidy by Winston and managed by Karoline Hanks. An estimated 15% of the total waste stream of Noordhoek is recycled from this facility. This substantial recycling of waste in the South Peninsula area reduces the need for landfill facilities in the CITY and also results in a more efficient use of primary resources for our country.
The waste transfer station behind Compass Bakery in Kommetjie will take one bakkie load of garden waste/builders rubble free of charge (one per day). There is also an excellent plastic recycling unit there and they take most kinds of plastic including sheeting, clear and opaque plastic. See more..
Worm Farm and FullCycle
Noordhoek Farm Village is proud to be associated with Mary Murphy and her team from Full Cycle – who are committed to reducing waste through innovative products and services. FullCycle has set up a large vericomposting site at Noordhoek Farm Village. The food waste from all the restaurants is collected daily and fed to the worms. In keeping with Noordhoek’s FullCycle commitment to low technology, low energy solutions (and converting waste into a beneficial resource), the waste is collected by bicycle and trailer and the vericompost and very-tea is used in the gardens at Noordhoek Farm Village.
